New Patients

Patients are asked about their presenting symptoms and how this is impacting their life. Usually pain or discomfort in the back, neck or other parts of the musculoskeletal system prompts a visit to a Chiropractor. Although undesirable, pain is useful because it alerts us to a problem that needs attention; rather like the noise of a fire alarm alerting us to take action. Switching the fire alarm off stops the noise, not the fire.
Other reasons for visiting a Chiropractor are to maintain or improve functionality or check spinal health; akin to why you visit a dentist to check up on your teeth.
Homeopathy is an Wholistic system of medicine, integrating both the physical and non-physical – a whole person approach to health and well-being. It can be used alongside conventional medicine and is one of very few medicines that can safely be taken during pregnancy or used for treating new-borns..
Wellness is about improving overall quality of life and looking at how, often small changes can significantly improve well-being using Nutrition, Herbal Medicine, Cleansing, Detoxification, Exercise and Yoga.
In practice there is often an overlap between the above. The presenting complaint will determine which approach or approaches are best. If you are unsure, please discuss before booking an appointment.

Chiropractic

Chiropractors are neuromusculoskeletal specialists ie. they specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of pain and disorders which generally arise from your muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, nerves, spinal discs or bones.  Best known for treating neck and back pain, chiropractors treat a wide range of related conditions.
Your nervous system controls your body, including internal organs, therefore keeping your nervous system functioning well will have a positive effect on the whole body.
At your first appointment we will ask all about your pain or discomfort. This is followed by a physical examination (neurological and orthopaedic) to determine what the cause might be, as well as ruling out more serious conditions. Marliese is qualified in Radiography and Radiology and can refer for further investigations should that be needed. She also uses therapeutic ultrasound when required.
Chiropractic is appropriate for all ages – from new-borns to the elderly, including during pregnancy. Different techniques are used to gently treat new-borns and these can also be applied to all ages.
Whilst joint manipulation has a long history of practice in many cultures, Chiropractic started in the late nineteenth century in North America with Daniel David Palmer.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy treats the Whole person – mind, body, spirit – as one, recognising that the mind and body are intrinsically linked and therefore need to be treated as a whole.
Homeopathy was developed around 250 years ago by a German Doctor, Dr Samuel Hahnemann. Disillusioned with the medical practices of the day, he developed a system of medicine based on principles laid down by Hippocrates (the Father of Medicine). One of Hahnemann’s principles is ‘let Like treat Like’ ie. if someone has symptoms of a common cold (runny nose, sneezing, streaming eyes, sore throat) they can be treated with a substance that produces those symptoms in a healthy person. Cutting an onion would cause similar symptoms in a healthy person. As such, the homeopathic medicine Allium Cepa (red onion) can be used to treat people with a common cold.
Over the past two and a half centuries, homeopathy has spread worldwide and is regularly used by 500 million people across all continents. It is one of the main systems of medicine in India. The vast majority of homeopathic medicines derive from the Plant Kingdom and are made at Homeopathic pharmacies.
The consultation involves finding out about the person, as well as the symptoms and signs presented, to arrive at the best medicine. If there are ten patients with the same condition, it is likely that each person will be prescribed a different homeopathic medicine because each patient experiences the condition in a slightly different way. It is these differences and subtleties that determine which medicines are prescribed.
Sometimes symptoms are slightly aggravated before improving. This is a well-known phenomenon in Wholistic Medicine. If you are concerned about an aggravation, please contact the Clinic.
HM Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family are long-time supporters and users of homeopathic medicine. Indeed, HRH Prince Charles is Patron of the Faculty of Homeopathy, of which I am a Registered Member (MFHom)

Pregnancy

Chiropractic is often used during pregnancy to ensure the musculoskeletal system is at it’s optimal, in preparation for giving birth.
Homeopathic medicine is one of very few medicines that can be safely taken throughout pregnancy, as well as before, during and after labour.
Marliese has undertaken post-graduate training in paediatrics and pregnancy. She combines chiropractic and homeopathy in treatment options where appropriate.

Baby Checks and Under 5's

Very gentle Chiropractic techniques are used to check and treat new-borns.
Homeopathy is one of the very few medicines that can be given to new-borns. Gentle Chiropractic techniques and the use of Homeopathic Medicine are both used to treat children, safely, effectively and without side effects.

Wellness

The World Health Organisation states that ‘Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.’
People are increasingly looking for an integrated approach to Health and Well-being. Wellness patients frequently express a desire ‘to feel better’ in themselves. They may lack energy, feel sluggish or simply want a natural solution to their health issues without taking drugs which may have side-effects.
In the Wellness consultation you will be asked about a wide range of lifestyle factors that contribute to your health and well-being and how that impacts your quality of life.
You will be given a Report of Findings with recommendations for your particular health goals and how to achieve them.
A word about Toxicity…
Over time, toxins accumulate in the body. Inhaled pollutants in the air are unavoidable; chemicals are added to food processing; animal husbandry routinely uses growth hormones and antibiotics; and drinking water has added chemicals for safety.
A build up of toxins can cause the body to function less well over time.
Cleansing and detoxification is recognised as a way of revitalising the body as a whole or targeting specific organs and is used in many cultures.
